Hong Kong Libraries and Victoria Peak

What a day for a girl fresh out of library school! Yesterday, we decided to find one of Hong Kong Public Library's Mobile Libraries. We'd seen signs around the city, and a quick look on the internet made one pretty easy to find. Turns out there are several of these mobile libraries, each rotating to a different location every day of the week. The truck holds a small collection of both English and Chinese language materials, including books and audiovisual items. One computer is also available with access to the OPAC and the internet. People really seem to enjoy the convenience, and when I went inside there were several patrons checking out the collection. It's definitely a great service for the citizens of Hong Kong!

Later in the evening, we went to the Hong Kong Central Library. Can I just say, that place is AWESOME. It's absolutely huge and modern, and holds a number of different collections including adult, young adult, and children's collections, a map library, a toy library with games and puzzles for checkout, Hong Kong Oral History Collection, Hong Kong Literature Collection, and so many more. Unfortunately, you can't take pictures of the inside, but take my word for it, this place is spectacular. I'm so glad we stopped by!

Finally, we took the Peak Tram up to Victoria Peak for a breathtaking view of the city at night. It was one of the coolest things I have ever seen. The tram looks like an old trolley, and it goes up the mountain at such a steep angle that when you look out the window, the buildings look like they're tipping over! Once you get to the "Sky Terrace" building at the top, you have to make your way up about 6 more levels to the viewing platform. When I stepped outside, all I could say was "WOW." I mean, I've been to the top of the Sears Tower and the Empire State Building, but this was unlike anything I had ever seen before. Hong Kong is absolutely gorgeous at night, and this was definitely one of the highlights of this trip!
